The EHHS Baseball Team kicked off their season on March 19, 2022 with Coach Butch Johnson aiming for a home run this year.
Mr. Butch Johnson, a former EHHS History Teacher, has been coaching the EHHS baseball team for 26 years. His goal is to assist the team in winning at least 10 games before the season ends. Coach Johnson said, “There are 20 games per season and they are planning to win 10 games this season.” The baseball team's first practice was on March 19, 2022, at the EHHS baseball. They have had at least 7 months to prepare for the season.
Many of the players on the team have been playing baseball for years. For example, William Hay, an EHHS Junior stated: “I’ve been practicing in high school and at “ThePit” for 3 years.” His number one reason for joining the team is because of his passion for baseball, in hopes that he will make it to the varsity team someday.
This season there are a total of 25 players, including; Jack Angelo, Peyton Torre, P.J. Carrangelo, Brendan Sturgess, Tim Case, Jason Kapinos, Nick Johnson, Janvier Diaz, William Hay, Bill Barthel, Marcello Proto, Dom Golia, Aaron Mclyntyre, Israel Ramos, Ryan Vallie, Joshua Ramirez, Joel Alvarado, Jose Hernandez, Mason McCarroll, Cameron Lacroix, Rocco Lombardi, Nick Vocatura, Ajani Davis, Emanuel Garcia, John Paul Garea, and Rafael Gutierrez. Dom Golia and Ryan Vallie are their captains this year.
The baseball team has always worked hard during their seasons. According to EHHS sophomore Torre Peyton, “We run a lapped field, stretches called 4x4, basic warm-up and basic stretches, bunting station, throwing program that can be pitcher or thrower, bullpen, fielding.” These are their routine warm-ups before they hit the field to maintain their strength. They practice from Monday to Saturday around 2:30 to 5:00 pm, except on Sundays. Every single team member has to train hard in order to achieve their goals.
Their first game was played at 755 Melville Ave, Fairfield, CT 06825 on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. There will be more games following this one on their schedule. Come out to show your support for the home team!
