We're In The Endgame Now (No Spoilers!)

“I love you 3000” if you teared up when you read this then might have already watched Avengers: Endgame. One of the most highly anticipated movies of the decade for it is the closing chapter of a ten year long series. The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and many more heros. Avengers: Endgame directed by Anthony and Joseph Russo, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, premiered on Friday, April 26, 2019 in the US breaking almost every box office record with a $1.2 billion global launch their opening weekend. With so much profit produced, the hype, and the plethora of people going to see the movie it begs the question: Is the three hour Marvel movie worth it?

This has to be one of the biggest cinematic events of the decade. Endgame picks up the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War where the Avengers lost and the world is in mourning as they try to move on. But when a glimmer of hope comes shining through, they give it one more shot to bring back their decimated peers.

Visually the movie was spectacular, the special effects added to the drama, the camera angles caught every heart wrenching moment just right, and the acting made you feel like you had an emotional connection with the character. As Shawn Robbins, Chief Analyst of Box Office said, "We're watching a monumental moment in the history of cinema unfold -- one that the entire world is experiencing together.” But not everybody feels the same way as Shawn Robbins. Many people feel as though the movie did not live up their expectations and left many plot holes. Manuela Carvalho, a junior at EHHS, strongly states “I think that everybody has really high expectations for what the movie was, it was getting so built up and it was a year of waiting for the second movie, it just didn't reach my expectations. I just wasn't happy with it.” Where as avid watchers of the Marvel series feel the exact opposite. Alysa Carangelo also a junior at EHHS says, “I loved it, I was a little conflicted with how I felt but after time for it to settle in it was a phenomenal movie... The movie is worth every penny.”

For many actors this is their last Marvel Movie with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth ending their contracts with Marvel Studios. But fans should not fret for the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue with the release of Spiderman: Far From Home on July 2, 2019 but there are several other rumors of upcoming movies such as Black Widow, The Eternals, a Black Panther Sequel, and a Doctor Strange Sequel although none of these titles have been confirmed yet.

To answer the burning question “Is the 3 hour Marvel movie worth it?” The answer is yes, but it is recommended to watch some previous marvel movies, such as Infinity War, to understand Avengers: Endgame. Even though there is some plot holes, and many questions left unanswered, the writing is clever, the directing is phenomenal with hidden easter eggs in the movie, and the emotions convey by the characters are tear worthy. If you have not gone to see Avengers: Endgame what are you waiting for!
