The boys baseball team went up against, Branford, Norwalk, Notre Dame West Haven, and North Haven in the past week. Sadly our team had lost three. The North Haven game went into extra innings which was a big game for the YellowJackets. It was a tough loss; North Haven hit a walkoff to win the game. They beat Branford, our rival, for their most recent win. They won 11 to 1 which is a mercy rule so they had only played 5 innings in that game. Coach Butch Johnson said, “The ultimate goal for this year is to win it all we have a shot this year we need to take it.” Hopefully we can bounce back and try and complete our goals and win a state championship for the team and our school.
The girls softball team coached by Ed Crisafi went up against our rival Branford Hornets. They ended up beating them 16 to 2 to improve their record on the season with seven wins 7 and 6 losses on the year. Coach Ed Crisafi said, “We have a very young team with a lot of freshman who are playing and have a lot of potential to be very good in the next couple years if they are-coached the right way and taught the right way.” The girls softball team has a lot of momentum and they are gonna be rolling into the playoffs very soon and looking to win a state championship for our school this year.
The boys tennis team had a match against Guilford High School recently. They lost that match 5-2 which was a very close match. The have been doing okay; Coach Perotti said, “We do not have the record that I wanted or the kids wanted bust the kids are the best and I am so happy that they are having fun.” The ultimate goal this season is to get at least five wins seeing as our tennis team has not been so hot in the last few years we are looking to be the best we can be and represent our school.
The girls tennis team went up against Career High School in their last match. The entire team won 7-0 which means every player that had a match that day won their match. Which is excellent. That win brought their record to 3 and 9, which is not the best record but they are improving a ton. This is a young team as well and they are going to keep having success throughout the years. Coach Dave Oshana said, “I wanna win every time my girls go out there.” The ultimate goal is to have some of the girls go to states and have them win.
The boys and girls Co-ed golf team last had a match against Foran, Jonathan Law, Wilbur Cross, and Hill House. We tied Hill House at two hundred a piece and beat cross two hundred to two hundred and sixty seven the lowest score wins the match. They have a 4-4-1 record and they have now qualified for states. Twenty teams are able to make states and we are ranked eighteen of twenty. Coach Dave Augustine said, “The main goal this season is to win a state championship for this school because people don't really know we have a golf team and I just want the kids to have as much fun as possible, especially the seniors who will be leaving me next season.”
The EH boys and girls track team recently went against Career and Platt Tech at home. They swept them. They beat Career one hundred thirty eight to eight and Platt Tech one twenty one to twenty one to get the clean sweet on both teams in the meet. As of right now after that win they improved their record, they are now 3 and 8, which is not the best but we are a young team we have a lot of time to grow as a team and be great in the future. Coach Dunne said, “We have a lot of raw young talent that are gonna be great in the next couple years I can't wait to watch them grow and develop.” The ultimate goal for this season is to win out and have so of our athletes go to states.
Throughout this year in sports whether it be fall, winter, or even spring our athletes have done exceptionally well this year. They really care about the athletics this year and we are hoping that throughout the years we can do more things with all the sports. Such as reward them for all their had work they are doing. The staff and coaches here at EHHS are very proud of their athletes and students for representing our school with such pride.
