The Final Four

The College Football Playoff committee released its final rankings this past Sunday afternoon, setting up the four playoff seeds in the process. It's a great day to be a Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Alabama fan, since those four teams will compete in this year's playoff season. This year's semifinal playoff games will take place in the Rose Bowl located in Pasadena, California on Jan. 1, 2018. In addition, the Sugar Bowl will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on the same night. The National Championship Game will be played on Jan. 8 in Atlanta. The Clemson Tigers have made it to the College Football Playoffs for the third consecutive year. The Tigers entered selection day with eight wins over powerhouse teams such as, Auburn and Miami.

The Oklahoma Sooners have remained within striking distance of the top four spots in the playoff rankings. The Sooners’ senior quarterback, Baker Mayfield recently won and received the Heisman Trophy for his performance this season.The Oklahoma Sooners made it to the playoffs for the second time in history, its first appearance since 2015. The Georgia Bulldogs made a leap from No. 6 to No. 2 after a decisive victory over Auburn in the SEC Championship. The Bulldogs avenged their only loss of the season, a 40-17 defeat at Auburn on Nov. 11, 2017. Georgia put itself in position to make the playoffs after a road victory over Notre Dame in Week 2. The Georgia Bulldogs are the first non-Alabama SEC team to make it to the College Football Playoffs. Alabama has made the playoff all four years of the format’s existence.

This marks the third year in a row Alabama and Clemson matchup, but this time it will be in the first round of the playoff. Last year Clemson won the title and the year before Alabama defeated the Tigers to win the national title. The first round of playoff games will be on Jan. 1, with Clemson and Alabama heading to the Sugar Bowl and Oklahoma and Georgia facing off in the Rose Bowl. The winners of the semifinal games will meet in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 8 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
