Balance Has Been Restored To The World "NBA"

On October 22, 2019, the NBA season started with a bang when the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers matched up against each other for the first time this season. The game was back and forth with no team being able to gain a big lead. In the end, the Clippers, without Paul George and only Kawhi Leonard were able to pick up the win by ten points against a team that had two of the top players in the NBA, Lebron James and Anthony Davis. That game, however, didn’t affect the losing team.

At this time, both teams have nearly fifteen games played; the Lakers got off to a hot start, having a record of 11-2, while the Clippers had some difficulty, obtaining a 9-5 record. As a result of these records, many fans have been left wondering which team will be the victor in the “Battle of LA.” Jaden Salgado, a member of the EHHS basketball team said, “You’re crazy if you think anyone is dethroning the king and Anthony Davis. The first game didn’t mean anything because as you can see, Lebron wasn’t even playing seriously; he only had 18 points, while AD had 25 points. If they played seriously in the two games they lost, they would’ve been 13-0. Keep sleeping on this team and I guarantee they’ll win 65 or more games.” With those two teams potentially being the powerhouses of the western conference, you just never know how the rest of the season will play out - not only within the battle of LA but with the rest of the league.

The 2019-2020 NBA season isn’t about a single dominant team like it’s been in the past years; this year is about balance being restored to the league. Nearly every team this year has a dynamic duo, but the most notable one is the Rockets’ with James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Matt Delahoz, a junior in our school said, “Those two are both ball-dominant guards that were the main focus of their own team last year. So when the trade went through during the offseason, it did raise some concern for fans of those players, like myself. Yeah, they did play together before and do well. But in the end, they’re already off to an 11-3 start this season with things looking good for the future.” The draft class of 2019 is a strong one; these players have the potential to be great players in the NBA. The top three picks in this year’s draft, Zion Williamson, Ja Morrant, and R.J Barret all showed great signs during summer league, which carried over for R.J and Ja, but unfortunately not for Zion since he’s injured and hasn’t played a single NBA game. Although, there are still some rookies that shine brightly next to those three: Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat. Those two have been nothing but surprises since the beginning of the season - especially Kendrick Nunn, who went undrafted. As of right now, Kendrick is averaging 17.8 points on 47.2% from the field, while Tyler is averaging 13.3 points on 43.7% from the field.

As the NBA changes once again this year without any warning, fans always have something to be excited about. From the battle of LA to balance being restored to the bright young stars for the future, this NBA season will be the most exciting one yet.
